Ladder leveler overview

Understanding ladder levelers and ladder stabilizers

As a consumer you have many choices in aftermarket ladder levelers and ladder stabilizers. There are many important facts that are not well understood about these aftermarket devices.

Common ladder levelers are designed to attach to the side of the ladder. These devices usually require drilling holes in the ladder to mount the ladder leveler. This is not recommended. Unless you have permission from the ladder manufacture or have purchased it directly from the ladder manufacture, you have now potentially modified the ladder’s integrity.

Many ladder companies are now offering these devices as part of the ladder itself. This is a better approach from a liability perspective. There are a number of downsides to side mounted ladder levelers. The first is that they are often difficult to adjust and in many cases do not provide a fine enough adjustment; the second is they do nothing to improve stability and may in some cases actually decrease stability. These devices may not allow the feet to sit flat against the ground on a slope.

A better option for a ladder leveler is an aftermarket device that does not require physical modifications to the ladder can be easily taken on and off and adds significantly to ladder stability. That’s what is accomplished in Thorstand.

Thorstand can be attached in a few seconds, does not require any physical change to the ladder and significantly increases the base width of the ladder thus, increasing ladder stability. This is extremely important when dealing with slopes, soft ground or long ladder heights.
